Markham Park 16001 W. State Road 84 Sunrise, FL 954-389-2000 The centerpiece at this huge county park on the edge of the Everglades is a series of interlocking lakes offering opportunities for fishing and boating, including two ramps, one with access to the Everglades Conservation Area. There's also a swimming pool complex with mist pool, snack bar, lockers, showers and restrooms, as well as a tennis/racquetball center, a biking/jogging path and volleyball areas. The park is horse-friendly, with horses allowed in the entire park. In addition to an observatory, model airplane field, model boat lake and a mountain bike trail, the park has an outdoor target range for pistols, rifles and skeet shooting, including a sporting clays course, clubhouse, snack bar and meeting room. Picnic facilities include several shelters for rent, as well as tables and grills throughout the park. A campground offers 86 sites for tent and RV camping, some with water and electricity and some with full hookups. Group camping also is available by reservation. (January 10, 2006) Dog Park: The approximately 4-acre facility has two areas for on dogs of different size and weight. The park has 8-foot-wide asphalt paths, three shelters, drinking fountains for dog handlers and for dogs, and a centrally located dog wash area common to both small and large dogs. Dogs must be at least 4 months old and have proof of current rabies vaccination and license. Other dog park rules are posted at the park's entrance.
