Hollywood, FL

At the eastern edge of Hollywood is a place where Florida's natural beauty is preserved for both humans and wildlife. That place is West Lake Park, which includes the Anne Kolb Nature Center (click for more details). This county park has picnic areas, a biking/jogging path, tennis, basketball and racquetball courts, volleyball areas and a playground. Two picnic shelters are available for rental, and picnic tables and grills are available throughout the park on a first-come, first-served basis. Shelters hold up to 45 people. There's a marina at the Anne Kolb Nature Center where you can rent kayaks and canoes to follow three canoe trails and explore the 350 acres of West Lake's open waters. Rentals are $7 per hour per boat and any children must weigh more than 30 pounds. Boats include life vest, paddles and a map.

Manatee Playground: This children's water park offers a water fountain, colorful slides, platforms and swings in a small-scale pirate ship theme. The base is a soft rubber surface, easy on the feet and not slippery when wet. Wheelchair accessible.
