Not to be confused with the similarly named establishment in Palm Beach, this Atlantic Avenue treasure was built in 1926 during Prohibition and is one of the historic hotels of America, according to the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Make sure you check out the original furniture in the lobby, dining room and some of the guest rooms. You can also splish-splash around in the spectacular Olympic-size, heated, saltwater pool. Or take a dip in the freshwater plunge pool. Both are at the Cabana Club, which is two miles away on the beach (there is van service back and forth). That is what makes the Colony a great place to staycation: You can be in the middle of all the hubbub of Atlantic Avenue if you choose or get away from it all at the oceanside Cabana Club.
