Best baker in South Florida 2017: Lykeisha the Baker

BEST BAKER

Lykeisha the Baker Bakery

Lykeisha Boyd is the best-known baker you’ve never heard of even though her couturelike, made-to-order cakes and cupcakes have become showstopper must-haves for special events among those in the know. But all that is about to change. In November, she was one of four contestants at the Miami Gardens Sweet Freak competition that will air on the Food Network. And after four years in a tiny storefront on Sistrunk in Fort Lauderdale, Boyd says she’s opening a more spacious bakery in Margate, which will be called the Sweet Spot. She says her secret weapon is her “well-rounded palate,” which she uses for some unusual flavor combinations.

“As far as my flavor profiles, I’ve always been a big foodie,” Boyd says. “That’s just me. I’ve never been afraid of trying other cuisines. We are most known for our … banana-pudding cupcake. However, we offer other unique flavors, such as peach cobbler, maple pancake and bacon, sweet potato pie, and a host of after-5 cupcakes which are infused with alcohol, such as our strawberry margarita, Kahlua, and pink Moscato.”

Next up for Boyd will be cake-decorating classes, a baking summer camp for youngsters age 8 to 15 and a “Cake With a Twist” promotion where you bring a bottle of wine to enjoy while you decorate a cake with edible paint that you get to take home.
