Best Place To People-Watch and Best Beach:
The beach is a heady mix of hot sleaze, cool class, faded seaside lore and glistening aspiration. Its strength is its diversity. On the west side of A1A, there is a mix of every kind of restaurant and bar you could imagine, mixed in with T-shirt shops, hotels and marinas. On the sands, there is every demographic you ever heard of. A stroll on the strip, roughly from the Bahia Mar resort all the way north to the Casablanca Cafe, is like flipping through TV channels quickly — you see everything.
As for the beach itself, you can find everything from cold drinks sold at refreshment coolers to paddleboard/kitesurfing/jet ski rentals. Ice cream trucks make slow tours on weekends and occasionally, during high season, bands play on the small plaza at Las Olas and A1A (across the street from the Elbo Room). If you’re all tanned out, then check out the Bonnet House Museum and Gardens or walk to the Fort Lauderdale South Beach Park and shoot some hoops, play volleyball or workout at the outdoor "gym."
