The Derek Cintron Trio

In 2001, Derek Cintron released Oh … the Drama, which went on to take Best Rock Album in our Best Of edition that year. Fans of straight-ahead rock music gloried to choice cuts such as "Pirate Radio," an almost criminally catchy tune. At concerts, women swooned over Cintron's often-shirtless torso. Then, aside from creating some buzz on college-rock stations, the band spent the four years since in a bit of a holding pattern. But this year, two things happened. First, the DC3 started performing at the swingers' club Plato's Retreat. Second, the band completed its long-awaited album, You and Me and Everybody Else. It's an improvement over the 2001 release, which means the DC3 will likely be more visible on the live-music scene. And that means the DC3 will be having a very good year come 2006. Major-label A&R people, take serious note.
