In picking a band for this category, we immediately dismissed all pop-punk pretenders. Then, we cast aside hardcore because it gives us a headache. Next, we looked at the band that best defines the word punk but also plays well -- after all, Sid Vicious is a textbook definition of punk, but he couldn't play the bass for shit. After narrowing it down this far, the obvious choice was The Mary Tyler Whores. Armed with a new drummer and a more open-minded attitude about where it will perform -- witness a recent show at less-than-punk locale Automatic Slim's in Fort Lauderdale -- the Whores are prepared to take over the South Florida punk scene.
