THC Crew

With its riveting, Beastie Boys-like performances, THC Crew has been one of the most active hip-hop acts in the region for several years. In 2003, the group released the popular mix tape High Times, which was followed by the equally powerful 4:20 -- You Know What Time It Is. This summer, the Crew put out its first Spanish-language CD, The Hispanic Connection, a move that seems so natural and drives so deep, the group's popularity could blow up nationwide. Cuts such as "Disparando," produced by K.L.R. and DJ Mega Mix, and "En la Disco," worked up by Quiksand, are infectious and elevating on the dance floor. THC began as a graffiti collective before its members turned their attention to music. With that kind of organic chemistry and influences ranging from AC/DC to Whodini, the band can make listeners completely forget what time it is -- unless it's 4:20, of course.
