The corner outside Tarpon Bend
Southwest Second Street and Second Avenue, Fort Lauderdale
Just as the Pillars of Hercules welcome anyone who sails into the Mediterranean Sea from the Atlantic Ocean, nearly everyone who wishes to head into Himmarshee Village passes this street corner. Most people arrive from either the parking garage just to the east or from the Las Olas Riverfront; more important, they walk back this way, as well. At 3 or 4 in the morning on any given weekend, this corner is packed with people too drunk and wired on Grey Goose and Red Bull to consider going home. But the bars are closing, so what's there to do? The obvious answer, of course, is to come home with you.
