Before you get your undies in a bunch about how the public funds to buy one Tomcat F-16 could provide health care for thousands of sick children, consider this: It is impossible to find an event that can create a sense of childlike awe in people of all ages better than the Air and Sea Show. That it's free just adds to the value. For the past 11 years, millions have lined the beach in Fort Lauderdale to watch planes seemingly disobey the laws of physics, be they the Navy Blue Angels flying in death-defying formation or a fighter jet making a silent approach before screaming past with an unholy roar. Americans like to think of themselves as different from the rest of the world, and when you're overwhelmed with an exhibit as otherworldly as this one, it's easy to understand why. The show is expected back for a 12th year in May.
