Wallflower Gallery
10 N.E. Third St., Miami, 305/579-0069, www.wallflowergallery.com
The Wallflower not only offers local emerging artists a showcase for their talent, it also serves as a center for the cultural community in the heart of downtown Miami. Since its first exhibition in 1997, the space has grown to present live music, theatrical performances and spoken-word, film, literary and dance presentations. The artists put their energy into building the gallery into the space that it is. The gallery's store, The Wallflower Bizarre, carries locally made candles, wooden boxes, handblown glass items and ceramics. In addition, its Art Activism gallery initiative combines art with presentations on political issues, and the gallery also serves as a meeting place for progressive activist groups.
