Miramar Bakery
699 N. State Road 7, Hollywood, 954/963-4050
The search for a Cuban sandwich worthy of Little Havana took us to the Miramar Bakery, one of the first Cuban panaderias to open north of the Miami-Dade County line. The tiny storefront located just south of Johnson Street is designed exclusively for takeout. The $3.75 sandwich starts with fresh-baked bread filled with ham, pork, cheese, mustard and pickles and gets toasted in a heated press. Tempting pastries, cakes and specialty desserts such as flan, bread pudding and tres leches fill glass cases. Spanish is spoken almost exclusively here, making it a good place for gringos to practice a second language.
