Flashback Diner
220 N. Federal Highway, Hallandale Beach, 954/454-8300
After a night of drinking and debauchery, your body craves the kind of sustenance the Flashback provides. From breakfast to burgers to BLTs, the Hallandale landmark serves up tasty and filling comfort food in a setting that can seem somewhat surreal, depending on what substances you've recently ingested. A musician friend swears by the restorative nature of chili and rice, his favorite postgig, late-night Flashback snack. Sit at a booth beneath a photograph of the Three Stooges, Marilyn Monroe or 1920s-era South Florida. Order one of the cinematic-named entrées, such as the Humphrey Bogart (open-faced roast beef sandwich, gravy and mashed potatoes) or the Marilyn Monroe (open-faced turkey sandwich, gravy and mashed potatoes), or maybe even a delicious dessert like honey-drizzled baklava or the ever-popular black-and-white cookie. Wash it down with a few cups of coffee, watch the sun come up over Gulfstream Park racetrack and head home to sleep it off.
