No beverage causes quite as much confusion as wine, but that's a poor excuse for staying dumb about what the Greeks rightly decreed as the "gift of the gods." You can start your education with the free tasting held from 6 to 8 p.m. every Tuesday at the Side Bar at Himmarshee Bar and Grill. You'll sample as many as four wines from a single vintner, and a company rep discusses each grape. The wines are well-chosen domestic brands, mostly Californian, that are found on the restaurant wine list, and finger foods from the restaurant are usually served to match the drink. Besides helping you discern between Benziger and Beringer, the tasting doubles as a casual happy hour for people who'd rather drink wine than beer.
