Lake Worth Street Painting Festival
Lake and Lucerne avenues between Federal and Dixie highways, Lake Worth, 561/582-4401, www.streetpaintingfestivalinc.org

On Feb. 25 and 26, 2006, Lake Worth's Street Painting Festival will celebrate its 12th year, and it never ceases to amaze. Downtown streets are closed for the event, and more than 500 artists -- pros, students and inspired nuts -- take to the blacktop. You won't find lame landscape paintings of trees and sunsets here but intricate originals and masterful replicas of great works of art such as Picasso's "Dream Woman" or Monet's "Terrace at St. Andresse." The results are breathtaking, and the sight of the artists on their knees in the middle of the street, covered from head to toe with a dirty rainbow of chalk dust, is truly a thing of beauty. Pick up a bucket of chalk and try it yourself.
