With the Panthers in lockout, the Marlins not living up to fans' expectations and the Dolphins putting their future in the hands of Ricky Williams, this year's competition for Best Sports Team came down to the Miami Heat and the Toojay's Gourmet Deli softball team. But we must give the Heat its due. The team provided sheer excitement and an extremely emotional letdown, the two ingredients that make professional sports so addictive. The Heat posted 59 wins in the regular season, but the injury-battered team's fall to Detroit in game seven of the Eastern Conference finals was devastating. Help has arrived with off-season trades that include the addition of All-Star forward Antoine Walker and point guard Jason Williams. Throw their talent in with the continuing revelation of Dwyane Wade (see Best Professional Athlete), the heroics of Udonis Haslem and the mighty Shaq (see Best Celebrity), and, well, we can't wait till next season.
