Best Place To Buy Plants
September 21 2005
Trinity Churchside Gardens
24 S.W. 10th St., Fort Lauderdale, 954/768-0423
This downtown nursery recently expanded its selection to include more kinds of interesting fruit such as dragon fruit, June plum, Barbados cherry, dwarf bananas, Dixie grape and mulberry plants. The nursery also stocks an astonishing variety of crotons and native landscape plants. Unusual finds include neem trees (Mahatma Gandhi was said to eat these leaves daily for good health) and sensitive plants, which have little, pink pompom flowers and leaves that close when touched. Horticulturalist David McLean is on-site once a month to answer customers' questions. But be warned: Some of the other employees aren't as knowledgeable as he is, and the nursery provides no printed material with information about the plants. Living Systems is open only from noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
