Victoria's Attic
1926 E. Sunrise Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, 954/463-6774, www.victoriasattic.net
Victoria's Attic has become so overstocked with what it calls "splendid discoveries" that it opened a second shop on the opposite corner of the Gateway Plaza to handle the overflow. Even with the additional space, the original locale is still so cluttered that you need be nimble and sober to navigate the cramped floor space. But if you're patient and keep looking, splendid discoveries really are there to be mined. Some of the furniture, particularly the sofas, bookcases and chests of drawers, looks like what your parents might have owned in the 1970s and '80s. There are also plenty of odds and ends from your grandparents' day, such as a mahogany high-bow chest that dates to the 1940s. The shop also sells works by local artists Purvis Young and Michael Joseph.
