The Funky Buddha Lounge
2621 N. Federal Highway, Suite F, Boca Raton, 561/368-4643, Myspace.com/thefunkybuddhalounge

Open from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, The Funky Buddha doesn't boast the largest beer selection of any bar in South Florida. In fact, with its only 30 or so microbrews from which to choose, it's obvious that quantity is not the reason we're highlighting this tavern, tearoom and hookah bar. While other places may boast as many as 100 beers, The Funky Buddha serves some found at few other venues, including quirky brands such as Salvation and Nostradamus. A few of the more-infamous brews, such as Old Stock Ale, boast alcohol contents of 11 percent or more, making them comparable to wine in that respect. Puff on a hookah while you're sucking down those suds -- many people demand food-flavored tobaccos such as mint or apple, but try the rose and jasmine -- and come on a Friday or Saturday night, when the place hosts a belly dancer; you'll be instantly transported from the strip-mall hell of South Florida into an Asian harem fantasy.
