When New Yorkers Georgie Seville of that city's infamous Motherf**ker party, Pedro Mena of its all-night dance-off Shout! and the band Fannypack's creator Fancy teamed up earlier this year, few people knew what to expect. But the trio pleased all comers with its grand-opening celebration, which included a sweaty performance by Juliette (Lewis) and the Licks, and subsequent events such as the U.S. Air Guitar Championships. For left-of-center shows by acts like Tilly and the Wall and the occasional performance by Top 40 stars including Ryan Cabrera, Studio A has become the area's most open-minded concert venue. Plus, the sound system allows listeners to hear every note, and the circular layout provides a good view of the stage from just about anywhere.
