Sankofa Sundays at Madiba Restaurant and Lounge
1766 Bay Road, Miami Beach, 305/695-1566, Madibarestaurant.com
If you're looking for regular ol' reggae, you can find it at many clubs on South Beach on any given night. But if you like the deep, thumping beats of old-school dub and roots-reggae mixed in with your dancehall and soca, bring $10 on Sundays to Madiba. At the South African-themed club's Sankofa Sundays event, resident DJ Firewood plays an excellent mix of Caribbean music, and local reggae bands regularly treat patrons to live performances. "This is the only place where you can see authentic roots artists perform in such an intimate setting," host Kwame Taijon says. The cozy, safari-style lounge is located below the restaurant, which specializes in South African cuisine.
