It's not as if we're not looking for a venue to wrest the title of Best Blues and Roots Club from this perpetual champion, but in Bamboo Room's seven years of existence, no other venue has come close. Owner Russell Hibbard continues to book intriguing acoustic, blues, country, bluegrass, jam and anti-folk acts. Earlier this year, old favorites such as Alvin "Youngblood" Hart and Mofro plugged in and tested the strength of the Dade pine rafters of the club. Country-rock pioneers such as Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks and The Amazing Rhythm Aces mined the laid-back grooves of their classic recordings, and the ever-popular Subdudes brought their New Orleans roots-pop to the intimate room. Blues giants Kim Wilson and Duke Robillard kept feet pattin', and the jaw-droppingly soulful Corey Harris and Kelly Joe Phelps simply mesmerized with their singular styles. Hillbilly vampire Unknown Hinson also returned, driving the "womerns" crazy with his self-described "chart-toppin' hits."
