Best Reason To Go Out on a Saturday Night
October 18 2006
Lincoln Road Mall
Miami Beach
Conceived in 1925 as a winter getaway for tourists, the pedestrian-only Lincoln Road now attracts locals of all types -- gay, straight, single, attached -- who come to eat, drink and hang out in an open-air, art deco setting. Except at a small intersection, automobiles don't cross the plaza, so visitors can hop among the mall's bars, restaurants, art galleries and shopping boutiques without worrying about getting run over. Nearly all the cafés provide outdoor seating, and their tables are usually filled on clear nights, when a starry sky and the sway of palms can make even natives feel as if they're on vacation.
