Best Sunday Brunch for Big Eaters
October 18 2006
Blue Moon Fish Co.
4405 W. Tradewinds Ave., Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, 954/267-9888, Bluemoonfishco.com
The art-deco-style Blue Moon has everything you could hope for in a Sunday brunch: a great waterside view, indoor and patio seating, a wide variety of high-quality food for every palate and energetic servers who are quick to clear the plates and bring orders from the kitchen. A small banquet table just inside the front door welcomes diners with displays of hot entrées that include Cajun gumbo, blackened mahi-mahi, salmon strudel and crab cakes. Another with desserts -- flourless chocolate torte, crème brûlée and strawberry shortcake, among others -- awaits on the way to your table. With your appetite properly teased, you get a glass of champagne, a mimosa or a Bloody Mary and license to gorge yourself. The raw bar next to the stand for cooked-to-order omelets is a good place to start. At the other side of the dining room, steamed mussels and an assortment of salads line a bar, and fresh breads and pastries top a large table. The feast costs $29.95 per person, and reservations are suggested. Blue Moon also offers the brunch at its Coral Springs location (954/755-0002), but its shopping-plaza view just can't compare.
