Fernanda's International Gourmet Food Market
3045 N. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, 954/566-3104

Before people from around the world began moving to Broward County in droves, locals' exposure to the rich diversity of the planet was limited to reading an encyclopedia or shopping at Fernanda's. The Internet has since trumped the encyclopedia, but no international market has come close to replacing Fernanda's. Although relatively small, Fernanda's stocks a great variety of gourmet condiments from countries throughout Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Caribbean. Herbs, spices, sauces, olive oils, dried pastas and plenty more fill the shelves, and some of those ingredients are used in the prepared foods available for takeout in the back of the store. Italian-style sandwiches are served for sit-down lunches in an adjacent room, where bottles of wine, cookware and kitchen utensils are also sold.
