La Barraca Tapas Bar and Café
115 S. 20th Ave., Hollywood, 954/925-0050, Paellas.com
Whether it's parents dining with their grown kids or with little ones barely old enough to put their elbows on the table, the Spanish restaurant La Barraca throws out a welcome mat like no other. Owner-chef Jorge Luis Fernandez has two children of his own and his manager, Roberto Fernandez, has three. Each man is from Spain, where families don't eat together because they have to but because they want to. The menu of tapas offers dishes like crab cakes, mushrooms in garlic and baby lamb chops for cultured tastes and "hummer" meatballs, manchego cheese and tortilla Español "cake" made of potatoes, onions and eggs for kids. The brochettes of meat and seafood are big enough to share; the paellas can be prepared for nearly any number of people. Several large tables seat as many as eight people, and the lively flamenco shows staged every Thursday through Saturday are passionate enough for adults without being too racy for kids.
