Columbia Restaurant
651 Okeechobee Blvd., West Palm Beach, 561/820-9372, Columbiarestaurant.com

Columbia was steeped in history the minute it opened last year at CityPlace. Before it had even served its first plate of filet mignon Chacho, so named for a great uncle in the family tree, the classically appointed restaurant was part of a celebration that marked the 100th anniversary of the original Columbia in Tampa's Ybor City. The CityPlace locale marks the past with framed photos of family members and a timeless, Old Spain ambiance that's ideally suited to casually paced family outings and romantic dinners. The menu reflects the history, with items such as red snapper Alicante that originated decades ago in Ybor City. Columbia also offers a selection of Cuban dishes, and a large wine cellar stocks mostly Spanish and American bottles, many at affordable prices more in keeping with the 1980s than the 2000s.
