Tap-Tap
819 Fifth St., Miami Beach, 305/672-2898, Taptaprestaurant.com
Founded in 1994 and named for the brightly painted jitneys of Haiti, Tap-Tap offers authentic, reasonably priced Haitian food in a beautiful setting. Gorgeous, colorful paintings of the island and its people, as well as voodoo saints and spirits, cover the walls. The menu includes delicious starters such as deep-fried malanga-root fritters with spicy dipping sauce and pumpkin soup, as well as a fine selection of stewed goat, steamed fish with lime sauce and other seafood, beef, chicken and goat entrées. Tap-Tap is renowned for its mojitos and its house drink, the soley, which contains rum and passion-fruit juice.
