Nothing beats eating shucked-to-order seafood in a waterfront establishment, let alone one that has the vibe of old Fort Lauderdale. Before two New Yorkers bought Southport in the early 1970s, it was a tiny raw bar rumored to be frequented by Johnny Weissmuller, a.k.a. Tarzan, who was known to let loose with his famed Tarzan yell after a few beers. Southport continues to offer a wide variety of seafood entrées and chowders, the latter of which can be purchased by the quart for takeout. So head to Southport, swallow some oysters, down a few beers and holler like Tarzan on the way out.
