Best Vegetarian Restaurant

Udipi Cafe
2100 N. University Drive, Sunrise, 954/748-5660
This family-run South Indian restaurant has an enormous, all-vegetarian menu that includes breads such as puffed poori, a variety of curries, lentils and desserts, though some selections, such as those made with panir cheese, contain dairy. Try the iddly, steamed rice-and-lentil cakes with yogurt sauce. Dosai make an exceptional choice for entrées; these giant crepes are made of rice, lentil flour or Cream of Wheat and folded over dollops of curried onions or other vegetables. Each generously portioned entrée, most of which cost $10 or less, comes with sauces, pickles and chutneys to provide the enjoyment of many flavors in a single meal.
