Just across Federal Highway from the blindingly bright, new Gulfstream Park, the Flashback offers a comforting, old-school diner experience. Slide into an upholstered booth and chow down on sandwiches such as the Humphrey Bogart, an open-faced roast beef with mashed potatoes and gravy, or the Marilyn Monroe, an open-faced roast turkey with stuffing and gravy. Desserts beckon from a display case, and you'll be hard-pressed to get out the door without a black-and-white cookie or raspberry-filled Linzer tart. With an enormous retail and residential project slated for the corner of Hallandale Beach Boulevard and Federal, it's reassuring to know that a good and greasy breakfast, a bowl of chili and a damned decent cup of coffee will still be available 24-7 at the aptly named Flashback.
