Last year's hurricanes took a toll on South Florida bike trails with felled trees and water erosion. Markham Park's three-pronged system for novice, intermediate and advanced bikers took a hit, as well, but not for long. The overlapping trails were restored earlier this year to challenge bikers with a terrain filled with steep climbs, surprising twists and dramatic descents. Measuring more than eight miles, the three loops are well-marked so novices don't end up on a track they can't handle. Advanced riders have to watch their backsides on cutthroat trails that provide a degree of difficulty unlike any other in South Florida. One biker, who used to ride in the mountains of West Virginia, reported after a ride, "If you don't respect this trail system, you're gonna end up on the ground."
