The mechanical Ski Rixen at Quiet Waters Park is no longer the only one of its kind in the United States, since similar operations have opened recently in Orlando; New Braunfels, Texas; and Kansas City, Kan. It will always hold the distinction of being the first, however, and it's also home to the best wakeboarders in the United States. (See Best Sports Team -- Outdoor.) Six of the eight members of the U.S. Cable Wakeboard Team who competed at this year's world championships in Feldkirchen, Austria, train regularly at Ski Rixen, where they are pulled around a lake by an automated cable. The system frees wakeboarders and water skiers from the cost of owning or renting a boat and the need for someone to drive the boat so they can train. The site of the Cable Wake Board Nationals this past April, Ski Rixen is closed Mondays, except on holidays.
