Best Place To Watch Ships Pass

October 18 2006

Grant's Beach

Situated on the northeastern tip of Port Everglades, closed off from the rest of the city by a string of tall condos that allow public access only through a tiny pathway, Grant's Beach is the beach that time -- and all Fort Lauderdale -- forgot. Empty on most days, the beach boasts a long, rocky jetty that juts into the ocean. Agile beachgoers can climb onto the rocks and, if the moment is right, watch as ships on their way out to sea pass by no more than 100 yards from shore. Landlubbers can wave to all the tourists lined up along the decks of the cruise ships bound for exotic locales, fantastic adventures and lifelong memories. On second thought, just give those cruisers the finger.
