For years, Uncle Sam's has been arming DJs with raw material. But this store also caters to consumers who actually plan to listen to the records they buy, as opposed to scratching them. Well-stocked bins of 12-inch discs may bring back memories of your older brother rolling a doobie on his Dark Side of the Moon gatefold-LP cover. Flipping through the dusty stacks of wax provides plenty of retro kicks as you marvel at questionable coiffures from the mile-high Afros of '70s funksters to the feathered perfection of disco-era divas to the lacquered bobs and beehives of various pop singers of the past. To be sure, gems abound among selections ranging from $1 to about $5.99, depending upon the condition of the record and its sleeve. Realizing the timeless cool of vinyl, some artists continue to release new recordings on that medium, and when Bruce Springsteen's We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions came out earlier this year, Uncle Sam's had the 12-inch proudly displayed behind the counter.
