Best Way To Get Free Art

October 18 2006

Art Scavenger Hunt
Along Southwest Second Street, Himmarshee Village, Fort Lauderdale

Everyone knows the drill at art-show openings: Wander around, look at art, eat cheese, drink wine. Steve Sticht's annual art party, which generally takes place in the fall, adds a few wrinkles to this drill. Rather than simply hang art in plain view, Sticht and his fellow local artists hide paintings and sculptures around Himmarshee Village. Guests then get treasure maps and go on their way. They can keep what they find and have the art signed by the artists, who so far have included Sticht, Colin Christian, Sas Christian, Skot Olsen, Gidget Gein, Francesco LoCastro, Peter Giovenco and others. These artists are seriously talented, but at this event, they're like kids hosting a childish game of art hide-and-seek. After organizing this event for five years, Sticht, who is also the guy behind the Blue Bike Project, knows some really good hiding places.
