Let’s be real here. The best dance club in South Florida is somewhere in
Miami Beach. We’re not exactly sure where, but we’re fairly certain
it has a trendily misspelled name, like Mynt, or maybe an accent, like Privé.
In any case, the sheer logistics involved in coasting South Beach for the best
dance club seemed a fruitless task. North of Miami-Dade County, though, you can’t
do much better than Voodoo Lounge, particularly since Clematis Street had a stake
driven through its heart with the passage of the no-one-under-21-allowed ordinance,
which ruled out West Palm Beach almost as a matter of course. But that’s
not to say Voodoo won merely by default. With half the attitude of Miami Beach
— though, admittedly, this is still half-again too much — and much of
the style, a given night at Voodoo includes all the over-the-top fashions, high-priced
drinks and beautiful people you’d expect in such a place.
