The theater is buried in western-suburban hell, which might not be all that hellish
if you live out there. But if you don’t, Shadowood can be a bitch to find.
It’s located behind the Border’s bookstore, east of the McDonald’s,
west of Einstein Bagels, etc. Just be patient, and it will suddenly appear. Trust
us, it’s there if you look for it. After this quest, you expect to be rewarded
with a treasure trove of good movies, and you won’t be disappointed. Consistently
booking almost every independent, art and foreign film in release, Shadowood has
been known to fill up more than half its 16 screens with art films. And the crowds
are polite and appreciative. The theaters aren’t fancy, but the small auditoriums
make the viewing of small films seem more intimate. It’s a humble but long-standing
home for art films.
