The Improv franchise has been at the forefront of standup comedy since the first
club opened in New York in the early 1960s, and it has stayed there by booking
acts that help define — and outrage — the culture rather than imitate
it. At this CityPlace room, that means a weekly rotation of national headliners
no other local club can keep up with, from the politically astute D.L. Hughley
to the X-rated Robert Schimmel to the bizarre Mitch Hedberg. Thanks to the bars,
restaurants and shops located in CityPlace, an evening at the Improv can also
mean more than just comic relief, though that alone is usually enough.
