Just about any day of the week, especially after 5 p.m., Hamburger Mary’s
becomes the unofficial gay and lesbian headquarters of Fort Lauderdale. And many
folks travel from Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties to enjoy an evening of fun
there, too. Of course, there are the great burgers, the fun Mary Tyler ’Smores
party dessert and full bar service, but overall, its central location has made
it a must-stop for those on their club rounds. During Pride weekend in June, Mary’s
made its presence known with parties from the Hamburger Mary Look-Alike Contest
to the Mr. Hamburger Mary Beefcake Contest. It’s simply the place to see
and be seen, and miraculously it has managed to attract equal proportions of gay
men and lesbians, something not many gay clubs in South Florida have ever managed
to do.
