In 2003, sci-fi fan Blaine Kimball and horror fan Pete Mongelli formed Spooky
Empire Inc. and launched Screamfest, a horror convention featuring such B-movie
celebrities as Gunnar Hanson, who played Leatherface in the original
Texas
Chainsaw Massacre, South Florida-based cult filmmaker Herschell Gordon Lewis
and a slew of others ranging from musicians and artists to scream queens. The
event drew 2,000 horror-hungry souls to a Holiday Inn in Plantation and will be
held there again this fall.
