Young Circle amphitheater
Hollywood Boulevard and Federal Highway, Hollywood

It took three swings of the wrecking ball last March to take the first chunk out of a downtown Hollywood antiquity that had become obsolete toward the end of its half-century existence. Goodbye and thanks for the memories. Out of the battered rubble of the aged amphitheater will spring a $14 million ArtsPark that won’t be perfect but will certainly be an improvement. Scheduled to open in the fall of 2005 on the 10-acre circle, the ArtsPark will include a new amphitheater, an art gallery, a black box theater, dance and art studios, a sculpture garden, a butterfly garden, a large central fountain, room to throw Frisbees and a glass-blowing studio. Yes, a glass-blowing studio. What’d you expect, the Guggenheim?
