Anchored by the best rhythm section on the South Florida scene (just listen to
the pair of MP3s on the band’s Web site to appreciate the skills of drummer
Chuck Loose and bassist Terra Sullivan), The Heatseekers have risen to the top
of local rock. And if you don’t believe us, just ask Steven Van Zandt, he
of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band,
The Sopranos and, most important
for our story,
Little Steven’s Underground Garage, his weekly Sunday-night
garage/punk radio show on Miami’s Big 106 (WBGG, 105.9-FM) and West Palm
Beach’s Gater (WKGR, 98.7-FM). The Heatseekers were the winners of the Miami
part of Van Zandt’s Rockin’ Garage national battle of the bands (
www.rockingarage.com),
making it as far as the finals in New York City before being shot down by Muck
and the Mires and The Blackouts. We harbor a secret relief at this turn of events,
because it ensures we’ll have The Heatseekers to ourselves for just a little
while longer.
