It has played only a handful of gigs, but Ginger Snapped may nevertheless be the
biggest thing to hit Florida since Hurricane Frances. Lead singer Mishel Beebe
intermittently sounds like Deborah Harry, Courtney Love or … aw, the heck
with comparisons. Beebe sounds like Mishel Beebe. And that’s probably why
the band leaves such a good impression. Of course, it’s not just the standout
frontwoman. Javier Caballero, who also plays guitar for Neptune B, lent his skills
to the band and, coupled with the competent rhythm section of Jon Boho and Vanessa
Dubin and the keyboard crescendos of Layne Long, the music means as much as the
vocals. As long as Ginger Snapped picks up the pace of its gigs, expect much from
the fledgling band.
