As poker has become increasingly popular thanks to coverage of Texas hold em
tournaments on cable networks such as ESPN and The Travel Channel, so too have
poker rooms in casinos throughout South Florida. Finding an open seat at a poker
table has become as difficult as hitting a royal flush twice in one night. Yet
as crowded as the Seminole Hard Rock can get, a place at one of its 10-player
tables is well worth the wait, which can sometimes top four hours. The casino
offers not only Texas hold em, but also games of Omaha and seven-card stud,
with special jackpots for each game reaching thousands of dollars every night.
Players range from sharks to amateurs who mistakenly think they can go all in
when dealt a decent hand (they cant; this aint no-limit hold em,
folks) to dabblers looking for a way to kill a few hours and possibly win a few
bucks. Plus, given the relative newness of the Hard Rock, the casinos card
area is refreshingly clean and has yet to take on that smokers-breath aroma
familiar to so many poker rooms. If you like your poker old-school and grungy,
look elsewhere. For more on the Hard Rock, see Best Place To Spend All Your Money
