Checking out MacArthur Park is similar to going to a monstrous theme park, since
it takes several visits to take it all in. Visitor programs vary from month
to month and include guided introductions to birding, kayaking, snorkeling and
the elusive cast-netting. Last year, the park was home to a rare leatherback
turtle nesting, one of only a few recognized in the entire state. Its ranger-led
turtle walks to view green turtle nestings are so popular that every available
reservation is usually snapped up on the first day of registration. From September through May, moonlight concerts are held at the parks amphitheater, while
a telescope is usually available on the pier for stargazing during musical breaks.
