Bark Park
Snyder Park, 3299 S.W. Fourth Ave., Fort Lauderdale, 954/828-3647, www.ci.ftlaud.fl.us/cityparks/snyder/barkpark

It’s “the park dogs ask for by name,” according to the clever copywriters at the city of Fort Lauderdale. What dog wouldn’t beg for an outing at Bark Park? The two-acre, fenced-in parcel located just south of State Road 84 has two hoses for bathing, a split-level drinking fountain for dogs and their owners, and agility equipment to keep little Cocoa fit. There is also a freshwater lake — Snyder Park Beach — where the canines can swim leash-free every weekend and holiday. Built for dogs, the park does have rules crafted by and for humans: Dogs can dig holes, but their owners must fill them in before leaving. Dogs can frolic and nip at one another, even lick each other’s face, but pups in heat, or those with fleas, ticks or worms, are verboten. Dogs can relieve themselves on city property without getting arrested, but their owners must scoop up after them. Disposal bins and a pooper-scooper supply depot help keep the place from smelling like a farm.
