Chief Sitting Bull Organic Community Garden
Corner of Sixth Avenue South and F Street, Lake Worth, 561/233-1793
A former dumping ground and hangout for drug dealers and prostitutes has been
transformed into a beautiful, life-giving garden producing fruit, vegetables,
flowers and herbs for a diverse collection of community residents. Each tills
a 10-foot-by-10-foot plot within the three-quarter-acre lot and receives free
soil, seeds and water in return for being a good steward of the land. The garden
addresses not only the physical need for food but also spiritual needs, as it
breaks down cross-cultural barriers and connects people with the earth.
