Harry Adams Jr.
Dillard High School
This past May, one year after being declared academically ineligible because of poor grades, Adams turned in a starmaking performance at the 2006 state 4A track-and-field championships. This son of a former Dillard track star stayed true to the bloodline by clinching the 100- and 200-meter sprint races and running the anchor leg in Dillard's winning 4x100 relay team. Adams ran the 100 in 10.31 seconds, which would have set the state high-school record, except the win was wind-aided. His 21.03 time in the 200 was the state's best in 2006. Adams saved his greatest performance for the relay race, taking the baton when his team was trailing and speeding ahead of the pack to give Dillard a dramatic first-place finish.
