Best Beach Athlete

Misty May-Treanor

In her Association of Volleyball Professionals profile, Coral Springs' May-Treanor says if she weren't a touring beach player or coach, she "would like to have kids and follow my husband around and support him." Her husband is Florida Marlins catcher Matt Treanor, and while no one can fault May-Treanor for wanting to see the great ballparks of America, she's not ready to stop playing volleyball on our beaches. May-Treanor grew up and lived in California until moving recently to Coral Springs, though being one of the best female beach players in the world keeps her on the road much of the time. Nicknamed "Turtle," she became an AVP legend with teammate Kerri Walsh when the two won a record 89 consecutive matches in 2003-04 and the 2004 Olympic gold medal. Earlier this year, she became the second woman on the AVP tour to surpass $1 million in career earnings, which puts her ahead of her husband, who made $327,000 this year in his second big-league season.
